Easter Egg Hunt

News coverage in recent days has focussed on Cadbury’s failure to include the wordEaster on some of its marketing materials. Even our Prime Minister felt that this was a matter so important she needed to pass comment, describing the move as “frankly, just ridiculous.”

But sometimes, getting caught up in debates like #cadburygate can mean that we lose touch with the bigger picture. News coverage highlighted Christian outrage over Cadbury’s failings as a chocolatier - but what would it look like for Christians to be speaking out against the use of chemical weapons in Syria? The introduction of a two-child limit on Universal Credit? Or the failure of Saudi Arabia, where Theresa May visited last week, to guarantee basic human rights standards for its people?

It’s easy to get caught up in issues that seem important to us in that moment. It’s harder to stay silent when things upset us. But as Christians, we also have a responsibility to reserve our voices to highlight the injustices that matter the most.
